Pintor, gravador, decorador francês de origem russa, nasceu a 7 de Julho de 1887, em Vitebsk, numa família judia. O Fauvismo e o Surrealismo, em particular, influenciaram as cores profundas do seu estilo, mas à arte popular russa foi buscar a fantasia e a simplicidade dos temas.
